Who runs Verdict

Reynard Lin
I build and maintain Verdict. Every rate on this site passes through me before it goes live, so this page says who I am.

I live in the Greater Toronto Area and I am a student at Durham College. Verdict is mine: I write the code, source the card terms, and answer the mail that comes in.

I chase points, and I kept running into the same small problem at the till. I had a few cards on me and no reliable way to tell which one actually earned the most on what I was buying. The sites I looked at for an answer were paid to send me to a new card, so what they ranked was what to apply for, never what to tap. Nothing I found was answering the second question, so I built the thing that does.

Every rate in the catalogue goes through the same routine. The rate and the sentence behind it are pulled from the issuer's own cardholder agreement or rewards terms, and nothing ships until I have read that clause against the issuer's document myself and stamped the date I checked it. If I cannot find the clause, the rate does not ship. That is slower than copying a comparison table, and it is the reason I trust the numbers here well enough to publish them.

Issuers change their terms without telling anyone, so some of this will go stale. If a rate looks wrong to you, send it over and I will recheck it against the issuer. Corrections come to me, not to a support queue.

Verdict is not affiliated with any card issuer. Not financial advice.
